Affordable Legal Services

Another client came back and retained our office after price shopping. A simple joint petition for divorce for a client that had only been married for a few months. I don’t know how someone could request a $3,5000.00 retainer for a project that would only take the attorney 2 hours with another 2 hours in paralegal work. But there are many attorneys out there that do request an arm and a leg to start to work.

Now don’t get me wrong, I understand that some cases start out as a joint petition but become a full blown contested divorce. And an attorney has to receive some money up front to confirm that the client is financially responsible to pay their bills and to reserve an attorney’s time. But three times what is necessary for the requested work is more than what most clients should pay. So be sure if you are paying a retainer that it is a refundable and that the the legal fees are reasonable. You should not pay $3,000.00 for 4 man hours. This is also why it is a good idea to get a couple of quotes before making any big expenditure.
